'Reinforcement proceeding to Delhi', William Simpson, 1859

No. 10, captain george franklin atkinson, a view of the 'reinforcement proceeding to delhi', 1857, from the book 'the campaign in india, 1857-8', published 1859. Horse artillery had the task of giving fire support to the cavalry. With its soldiers all riding into battle on horses, wagons or limbers, the horse artillery teams were able to keep up with the fast moving mounted units. The east india company's bengal and bombay armies both formed their own horse artillery units on similar lines to the british army's royal horse artillery. Object Type: print. Date: 1859.
