Painted in 1798 by order of elizabeth alexeyevna for her mother, margravine amalia of baden, but remained in the winter palace, and the artist created a second portrait as a gift (without any arguments, l. Nikolenko believes the hermitage portrait to be a replica). Variants: with several altered proportions and turns of the figure - fabre museum, montpellier (l. Reault believes that this is the copy of the margravine of baden); portrait with a landscape background - private collection, paris; three pastel variants - the artist took one of them with her to dresden, the other two remained in st. Petersburg and were exhibited in 1905 in the tauride palace. There are numerous engravings. Date: 1798.
