Satire on contemporary politics: a strolling minstrel plays a pipe and tambour while behind him a chained and muzzled bear wearing the cap of liberty (representing the revolution) is kept in captivity by a monkey with drawn sword in uniform (representing the army); at the right two performing dogs dressed as an incroyable and merveilleuse (representing the counter-revolution) dance together.
