Extended caption: a blue-domed shrine silhouetted among stately palms on the tigris, and famed since biblical days and
the deliverance of the jews from the babylonian captivity. Venerated by turk and christian alike, it was by mutual arrangement guarded from injury during the war, and escaped unscathed but for one tiny shell-snick in its blue enamelled dome. Image: a view looking out to a blue-domed building built on an palm-fringed island in the river tigris. There is an outline of the island reflected in the river, and a group of trees further off in the distance. Date: (First World War).
