Notgeld banknote of the town schleswig, 1920: 25 pfennig, undated. Because of the similarity to the dated 50-pfennig schleswig banknote, the present specimen has to be dated to the year 1920 as well. The banknote stands for the transition from world war i to the weimar republic, its front side still calls it „kriegsnotgeld“ (war emergency money), while the text on the reverse says, „nun ruhen die waffen / nach blutigem streit“ ("now the weapons rest / after bloody quarrel", the reverse shows the townscape of schleswig at the brautsee, as well as two craftsmen with the products of their labour (sowing farmer and bread, blacksmith and locomotive), both symbolizing the hope for peace: "wollt gott uns geben / eine bessere zeit" (may god give us / a better time). Size: 50 mm x 70 mm. Date: 1920.
