iconographic description:
genre scene. Exterior scene: paris, "hôtel des grands", architecture, sculptures of vases and putti, weapon trophies, grille. Characters: several people are gathered around a liveried character at the entrance to a private mansion. A woman hands him a letter while a man, who is speaking to him, holds thick documents under his arm that he is about to give her. Several coupled cars park in front of the hotel. Many people are busy in front of the hotel. We recognize two oyster sellers, a young man carrying a knife on his belt and holding a net and a basket, a woman carrying a basket, a fashion seller holding a bulky package attached to her arm, a charcoal burner, a food seller holding a basket of bread and carrying a basket filled with food and a fruit seller carrying a basket of fruit on her head. A man and a woman are heading towards the hotel. In the courtyard, staff appear to be unloading the luggage of a woman who got out of a car parked in front of the steps.
