A group of dutch and french quacks surrounding the dutch virgin of the batavian republic, depicted as an old ugly woman with bare breasts. One of the charlatans has opened her vein and blood is squirting into a saucer in her lap. The standing citizen on the right is probably the surgeon willem leurs who wrote a treatise on bloodletting. Manufacture. Manufacturer: printmaker: anonymous, after a drawing by: david hess, after a print by: james gillray (possibly), publisher: giovanni zatta di antonio. Place of manufacture: venice.
