Lord charles strickland standish was born in lancaster county on 15 march 1790 and succeeded his father thomas strickland standish on 4 december 1813. He served as a magistrate, deputy lieutenant of lancaster county and sheriff in 1836. Charles standish was elected deputy for the whig party of wigan in 1837 and again in 1842. He married émilie conradine matthiessen (1801-1831), grand-niece of countess félicité de genlis, at carlepont in france on 18 january 1822. Charles standish died in london on 10 june 1863.
