it includes the iberian peninsula, the balearic islands and the coast of north africa. The map belongs to the work "atlas sive cosmographicae mediationes de fabrica mundi et fabricati figura", by gerard mercator. The plates were acquired by iudocus hondius in 1604, adding those of some countries that mercator had not drawn, such as this one, inspired by ortelius's map. Double frame with marking of degrees and 10' subdivisions, indicating the cardinal points. Meridian of origin on the island of el hierro (canary islands). In the lower right corner there is a renaissance-style cartouche where the title of the map is enclosed, crowned by a royal coat of arms; below, the name of the author, judocus hondius and the engraver petrus kaerius (peter van der keere), his brother-in-law. In the lower left corner is the graphic scale in spanish leagues. Relief represented by profiles of dejected mountains. Planimetry with the most important cities represented by grouping of buildings and division of kingdoms. Hydrography represents the main network, with the naming of the most important rivers. The coast is highlighted with horizontal stripes covering the sea in a zigzag pattern, simulating waves. In the sea, two nautical roses with thirty-two winds each and a fleur-de-lis indicating the n. And a cross the e. The decoration is completed by period boats and fantastic fish. Abundant toponymy in latin and spanish. Lettering in romanilla and italic letters.
