Sotheby's mis-attributed it to joseph clark (1834-1926) here archived 2018-01-09 at the wayback machine when they auctioned it in 2007. He did exhibit the christmas dole at the royal academy in 1889 (no. 444); but, that was a different painting. Sotheby's corrected their error for its 2013 auction (pointed to by source).
