Dahl (1801–1872), a russian lexicographer, ethnographer, linguist, writer, and author of the explanatory dictionary of the living great russian language. The stamp in the souvenir sheet features a portrait of vladimir ivanovich dahl (1872) by v. G. Perov. Souvenir sheet fields: the house in moscow (4/6 bolshaya gruzinskaya st. , bldg. 9), where vladimir dahl lived in 1859–1872; currently (2012) the building houses the vladimir dahl museum; v. I. Dahl’s autograph; a quote from vladimir dahl from his speech “a parting word,” read at the society of lovers of russian literature in moscow on april 21, 1862, which was later included as a preface to editions of his “explanatory dictionary of the living great russian language” (see this quote, for example, in the 2nd edition of the dictionary, 1880, volume i, page ii): “a living folk language, which has preserved in its vital freshness the spirit that gives the language fortitude, strength, clarity, integrity and beauty, should serve as a source and treasure trove for the development of educated russian speech. ”.
