The rocky and desolate landscape in the background on the left symbolizes old age, while youth is evoked on the right by an orchard and cultivated fields. Elderly women arrive by various means of transport on the left of the pool. A doctor examines some of them, others are frightened by the place. Bathing in the fountain restores their youth. Young girls again, they emerge from the water on the right and enter tents where they are richly dressed to immediately find the pleasures of life (love, meals, dancing, walking, etc. ).
