The scare crows arrival, or: honest Pat giving them an Irish welcome, Samuel William Fores, 10 June 1803

Satire on the fear of french invasion, 1794-1805. (british political cartoon); the french tried to assist the irish rebellion of 1798. Emmet's rebellion would break out in july of 1803. This cartoon portrays the irish as staunchly loyal. An irishman, in the act of digging potatoes, flings dirt on skeletal french troops landing on the shore. Behind him is a fortification topped with guns and a sign warning off the french 'poachers', reading 'man traps and spring guns. Beware'.;krumbhaar 1052. Date: 10 June 1803.
