Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-03-03) letter date (1944-03-06) next letter (1944-03-06) envelope: front: empty back: empty text blankenburg, 6. Iii. 44. My dear mum! i've just come back from an exercise in the field. It's midday, so i'm going to sit down and write to my dear mum. First of all, thank you for your lovely letter of 29. Iii. 44 [29. Ii. ?] and the little package with pasta [toothpaste?] and soap. The rif soap [a "reich office for industrial fats", abbreviated to rif, coordinated the distribution of waste fats and oils to the soap producers, who delivered their product, the "standard soap", with a manufacturer code and the stamp "rif". - see: soap rumors; picture of a soap gravestone ] wouldn't have been necessary, i still have some. I'm just surprised at the keen interest the district authority [austrian: general administrative authority of the political districts of austria in the first instance] is showing in us now. There's a lot they want to know. In the past, when things were still bad for us, nobody cared about us, well, it's always the same old story. I'm just curious what they want again. - the fact that there was no more alarm calms me down, it's always the same here. But as i said, don't worry about me, nothing will happen here. I'm paying attention. Date: 6 March 1944.
