Studies of a short seaplane and the scout cruiser 'active' the lower part of the sheet, inscribed 'active' at the bottom by wyllie, bears six pencil sketches from various aspects of the scout cruiser 'active', launched on 14 march 1911, completed in december 1911 and broken up from april 1920. The watercolour study at the top is a rear view of a short brothers type-184 tractor seaplane on a mooring. These were used for reconnaissance, bombing and torpedo dropping. More than 650 were built between 1915 and 1918. Date: circa 1915. Dimensions: 354 mm x 253 mm. Collection: Fine art.
