historical commentary:
an engraving by stefano della bella preserved in the recueil des menus plaisirs du roi, showing a repository undoubtedly built in paris at the royal palace, can evoke the luxury of these ephemeral buildings. The engraving is generally dated 1648, but is certainly later since we can see the tapestries of the tapestry of the acts of the apostles after raphael woven in mortlake, acquired by abel servien in 1649 and purchased by mazarin in 1659 (the borders are those of this hanging).
