The drawing is by abraham cooper (signature in the lower left corner); the engraver's signature is in the lower right corner. The illustration is for one of a series of stories intended for the religious instruction of the young. Here, the death of ernest brook, of a fever; he is depicted as in the text "his fine hair wet and dripping with the ice that was kept on his burning temples. " his wife ella is kneeling by his side and the story's narrator is looking in on the scene from the bed foot. Date: 1848.
