My beloved mother, thank you very much for your lovely letter on christmas eve. I wrote to you that evening too. I'm sure you've already received the letter. I'm glad that you had a nice holiday after all. Yes, we were both not alone and very happy about the kindness of fate. I've already told you how our celebration went; we'll soon be overflowing with contentment. You've made yourself a little tree, which makes me very happy. We'll light it when i get home and celebrate christmas for ourselves. It probably won't be too long now and we'll see each other again. I'm really looking forward to it! Date: 30 December 1943.
