Because of the similarity of this painting with the portrait of jacob jordaens in the collection of engravings portraying illustrious men, known as the iconography, based on a design by van dyck, some art historians have hypothesized that the man portrayed in this painting is jacob jordaens, with whom van dyck had collaborated in antwerp.
