this aquatint is based on a picture by william orme (fl. 1790-1825) and thomas daniell (1749-1840). The motijharna is a waterfall in the rajmahal hills of west bengal. It is visible between the two hills in the distance. The text accompanying this picture says that '[t]his scene is situated about 200 miles from calcutta, and is well known to travellers. The rajemahl hills form a boundary to the river ganges. Rajemahl was formerly the capital of one of the kings of bengal, the ruins of whose palace still remain. '
