Sailing of the First National Squadron, Álvaro Casanova Zenteno

This canvas shows three of the ships that made up said naval force, performing salutes on the day of departure on their first mission, october 9, 1818. In the center you can see the frigate lautaro; to port of this, towards the right of the image, the ship san martín (insignia of commodore manuel blanco encalada), and in the background, towards the left of the work, the corvette chacabuco. The brig araucano, which completed this force, does not appear on the scene. Its first mission had the successful result of the capture of the spanish frigate maría isabel in talcahuano, on october 28, in addition to several transports, during the following days.
