This wonderful sculpture is in front of central library and opposite the midland hotel, it is by an irishman, john cassidy, who had a studio in barton arcade, which i have just visited, and was first exhibited in 1907. The inscription reads: "humanity adrift on the sea of life, depicting sorrows and dangers, hopes and fears and embodying the dependence of human beings upon one another, the response of human sympathy to human needs and the inevitable dependence upon divine aid. "
to put it another way: "tories out!".
