(1792-1831), born the son of mary floyd and benjamin tallmadge, sr, served in the us navy on board the uss constitution. He was called to service as a midshipman in 1815, and was promoted to lieutenant in 1825, during this time the boat sailed the mediterranean sea to protect american commerce. He died while serving in the us navy near gibraltar on june 20, 1831. He died unmarried. He received an honorary degree from yale in 1830, and was an honorary member of that class.
