The former 'hyderabad contingent' infantry, 1910. Watercolour by major alfred crowdy lovett (1862-1919), 1910. Five figures representing 94th russell's infantry, 95th russell's infantry, 96th berar infantry, 97th deccan infantry and the 98th infantry. These regiments were formerly part of the semi-independent princely state of hyderabad's forces. In 1903 they joined the reorganised british indian army. This is the original artwork for an illustration in major g f macmunn's 'armies of india', published in 1911.
