Vii. 44. My dear mum! now i'm back here in old blankenburg in the castle barracks. Left from quedlinburg yesterday evening, saying goodbye wasn't easy, i would have liked to have stayed here, it was a wonderful time. I have to go to the doctor here on monday, well we'll see what he says. I'm just really hoping for a holiday, so i'll have to keep my fingers crossed. The wound has healed very well and i've hardly had any problems. I'm not allowed to lift or carry anything yet, though, and i won't do that anyway. I can't go on duty straight away, so i won't be [fit for military service straight away]. Date: 8 July 1944.
