Arrival of leopold ii in front of the palais de la nation on the day of his accession, brussels, december 17, 1865. — leopold is escorted on horseback by his staff, by his brother philippe, count of flanders, and by archduke joseph of austria, brother of the queen, in the procession which takes him from laeken castle to the palais de la nation (parliament). At half past twelve, léopold arrives at the palais de la nation, where the constitutional oath will take place. The civic guard and the garrison troops are under arms in the streets through which the king passed. The battalion of hunter-scouts, the artillery battery of the brussels civic guard, the wounded and those decorated in september 1830 occupy the entrance to the palais de la nation. Date: circa 1865.
