“augustin cantin (1809-1893), shipbuilder, born in cap-santé. He learned the trade of ship carpenter in quebec, then he came to settle in montreal where in 1841 he founded a first boat building site, at the corner of prince and de la commune streets. During the work to widen the saint-gabriel locks of the lachine canal between 1843-1848, he set up a new site, between canning and atwater streets, which ensured his wealth and notoriety.
