the stern and quarter-gallery only viewed from the starboard quarter. On the tafferel, the arms of leeuwarden, a lion rampant, on a crowned shield between swags of fruit or foliage. On the counter is the view of a town, presumably leeuwarden; and just above it, the name and date ‘ano leeu ward 16(? 01). ’
inscribed on the back in pencil in large gothic letters ‘leeu waarden’, perhaps by the artist, copying the form of lettering on the ship’s counter. This is a pencil drawing y the younger, signed ‘w.
