Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel dronningens vagtmester by carit etlar which takes place during the dano-swedish war in 1658-1660. The chicken boy palle has told svend poulsen, gøngegøvdingen, how ib abelsøn has been captured by the swedish soldiers at the gjorslev castle. Svend poulsen and his gønger who are disguised as swedish soldier themselve then goes to free him. On their way they meets two gønger who went ahead. The one has seen what happens at the castle. The other named jes skovfoged has captured the evil kulsoen to prevent her from warning the swedish soldiers. Svend poulsen (app. 1610 - app. 1679, at the left) was a real person but the story is fiction. The look of svend poulsen is also fantasy as there is no known portraits of him. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
