Gilt-framed portrait of peter moore 'as a young man' by tilly kettle, oil on canvas, circa 1775 (as so attributed in 2007 by the art experts in british paintings 1500-1850 at sotheby's, london). It was previously attributed to thomas gainsborough (1727-1788) - probably when it was in the possession of colonel charles thomas john moore (1827-1900), of frampton hall, lincolnshire. He was the grandson of edward moore of stockwell house, surrey - eldest brother of peter moore. The portrait descended in this line of the family to the beneficiaries of mrs valerie tunnard-moore, widow of thomas charles poynder tunnard-moore (1904-1984), who was a grandson of colonel c. T. J. Moore, of frampton hall. She died in october 2005. It was then sold by auction at sotheby's (6 june, 2007) to robin askew of toronto, canada - in whose possession it now remains. Robin askew's mother was joyce mary née moore, a direct descendant of peter moore. Object Type: painting. Date: 18th century. Dimensions: 75 × 61 cm (29.5 × 24 in). Medium: oil on canvas.
