This village changed hands five times during the war. (original title note, 1914-18 art catalogue, 1963) image: the extensively bomb-damaged village of fampoux. In the foreground are various pieces of debris, including rusty barbed wire, bricks and two artillery shells, which are standing upright apparently unused. Further back can be seen the remains of bomb- damaged red brick buildings, with bricks and masonry scattered on the ground. There are also a few bare trees and two damaged wheels are towards the centre of the composition. Date: 1919 (First World War).
