Portrait of Sir Henry Wyatt, Hans Holbein the Younger, circa 1537

Portrait of Sir Henry Wyatt, Hans Holbein the Younger, circa 1537

Sir henry wyatt (c. 1460/70–1537), was a privy councillor and treasurer of the chamber of henry viii and the father of the poet sir thomas wyatt. Thomas wyatt described his father's qualities as: "wisdome, gentlenes, sobrenes, desire to do good, frendliness to get the love of manye, and trougth above all the rest". [1] this portrait, once thought to have been painted during holbein's first visit to england from 1526 to 1528, is now believed to have been painted towards the end of sir henry's life, at the same time as holbein drew the portrait of his son. The sitter appears to have lost his teeth. [2] ↑ john rowlands, holbein: the paintings of hans holbein the younger, boston: david r.
