iconographic description:
a young woman, dressed in a blue dress, a black apron and wearing a white cap, turns away with irritation from an overly insistent seducer. This one stands straight, he is wearing a top hat and is holding a riding crop. Monnier and balzac, inspired by the same situations, often come together in their descriptions of the morals of their contemporaries, one through drawing and the other through writing. "there were finally so many buts and ifs that the count, invaded by one of those furious temptations for which there is no name in any language, even in that of orgy, set out in pursuit of this woman, finally chasing the grisette like an old parisian. Along the way, so be it whether he found himself following or ahead of this woman, he examined her in every detail of her person or her appearance, in order to dislodge the absurd and crazy desire that had barricaded itself in his brain [. . . ]" (extract from gambara, 1839, honoré de balzac)
