My dear mum! first of all, best wishes and thank you for your lovely card and letters. Yes, our poldi is gone again now too; how quickly the good times fly by. It would have been wonderful if we had met at home. There’s a lot going on in tunisia now [tunisia campaign]. You can send poldi’s pictures; i’ll look at them and then send them back. Poldi is a fine guy, it’s clear that he thought of you for christmas too. I’m really looking forward to when this is all over and we can see each other again in good health. Milla is getting married now, if so? are there any men left at home to marry? i've already written to you about what i think about it, i'll have to look around here for a matka. Well, i still have time, i'm not missing anything. You write that we hear that the russians aren't so cruel anymore. Where do we hear that from? people who have been out there know what's going on and think differently. Just look at what they did to the polish army at katyn [the katyn massacre]! and the stuff about frankfurt and the jews is just nonsense spread by enemy propaganda! i don't believe anything from either side anymore, i only believe what i see and experience myself and that's just enough. I'm doing wonderfully now, as i've already told you. I'm having the best time here so far, apart from being a soldier in the hospital and at home, in russia.
