Johan peter friedrich "fritz" von paulsen (1780-1843), danish army officer and courtier, with his wife elise née thorvaldsen and children. The couple married in 1832, and before his departure from rome, bertel thorvaldsen commissioned küchler to paint the family, including thorvaldsen's two grandchildren.
