Portrait of james kirker, otherwise known as don santiago kirker, king of new mexico. He was an indian fighter and trapper who lived in st. Louis from 1817-1821. On this daguerreotype is faint writing which is reversed, indicating that it is a duplicate plate. This inscription along the bottom of the daguerreotype says "don santiago kirker, king of new mexico".
