Waldeck 2-15 AMNH.063 Uxmal, Jean-Frédéric Waldeck, between 1834 and 1836

Jean-frédéric waldeck drawing of sculpture attached to "adivino" pyramid at uxmal, and reconstruction of paint in background seen from remains surviving. Note: waldeck tended to imaginatively restore damaged works, influenced by his studies of european and ancient egyptian art. The original on which this was based is no longer known; it may have been one of the "indecent" sculptures removed/destroyed in preparation for the visit by "empress" carlota in 1863. Date: between 1834 and 1836.
