Assistance is being given to the survivors by the us mail ship "john randolph and various rowboats. The school & convent of the sacred heart is seen in the background. Notes: the sinking of the "brilliant" took place 29 september 1851, as result of a boiler explosion, resulting in some 47 deaths. Date: September 1851 (published by 1857).
