This portrait is one of the most mysterious works by f. S. Rokotov. There are two versions containing assumptions about the personality of the hero. According to one of them (according to e. N. Chizhikova), before us is a portrait of count a. G. Bobrinsky, the son of catherine ii and her favorite g. G. Orlov. The other point of view (according to i. M. Sakharova) is based on the data of an x-ray, which showed that the work was painted over the image of a young woman, whose face was completely preserved in the later painting and was included unchanged in the portrait of the "unknown". The artist only changed the pose and the costume. The masquerade male costume further levels out the person depicted. Apparently, the portrait depicts o. S. Balbekova, the first wife of n. E. Struisky. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: early 1770-х. Dimensions: height: 58 cm (22.8 in); width: 47 cm (18.5 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Tretyakov Gallery.
