iconographic description:
full-face portrait of victor hugo made from his daguerreotype made by bisson in 1848 and never found. It is the oldest "photographic" image of the writer. Historical commentary:
the publication of the gallery of representatives extended from the end of september 1848 to december 1849, then more sporadically in 1850, 1851 and 1852. The portrait of victor hugo was announced by the bibliographie de la france on april 7, 1849: "no. 155 -- national assembly. Gallery of representatives of the people. Allier (ant. ) arago (emmanuel). Barbançois. Dubruel. Fournier. Hugo (victor). The variations between the copies kept by the museum attest that there were at least two prints. Themes / subjects / places represented:
