Hodges went to allahabad in 1783 and sketched this view of the fort, which stands prominently at the confluence of the ganges and yamuna rivers. Construction of the fort at allahabad began in 1583, under the patronage of the mughal emperor akbar. Hodges described the fortress as built in "the old style" with heavy walls flanked by towers which had fallen into ruins, while the city outside the fort consisted only of thatched huts. Date: 1787.
