Brazil: of the Noble Class, of Loves, and of Letters…, 1640

This map of brazil is the work of joan blaeu (1596-1673), one of the most famous dutch cartographers. Blaeu was trained as a lawyer, but eventually joined the amsterdam studio of his father, the cartographer willem blaeu. Together with his father and brother cornelis, joan blaeu published the atlas novus (new atlas), an 11-volume work consisting of 594 maps.
