Based on the plans prepared by józsef hild, the foundation stone was laid in 1851, then the construction was delayed due to a lack of funds, hild died in 1867, the grandiose dome fell in 1868, the demolition of the previous building continued until 1871, but from 1869, construction began again according to miklós ybl's neo-renaissance style plans.
