This is likely one of the most famous early torii school images, and the most famous image of danjūrō i. The artist's signature is in the lower-righthand corner, just above the seals. Though one might expect it to simply read 鳥居清倍 (torii kiyomasu), it in fact read 鳥居氏清倍 (torii-shi kiyomasu); shi means family or clan. Object Type: woodcut print. Genre: tan-e. Date: 1697 (元禄10年).
