The work represents saint francis of assisi, the founder of the franciscan order. The saint appears kneeling, with his hands crossed over his chest, and looking towards a crucifix. Next to it, and on the protrusion of a rock, a book and a skull appear, creating a meditative context. The saint is identifiable by his brown habit and by the long cord that surrounds his waist and falls to the ground.
