[An Oxford procession.], Isaac Cruikshank, 1796

Plate 48 to 'eccentric excursions, or. Literary & pictorial sketches of countenance, character and country, in. . England & south wales'. A stout parson (the vice-chancellor), wearing a hat and long gown, walks pompously (left to right), preceded by a verger carrying a long (silver) rod and followed by two fat but less pompous parsons (not wearing gowns). Three beadles holding long wands surmounted by a ball and crown walk behind. They wear laced hats and long laced coats. A fourth wand suggests a fourth beadle. A general view of university processions, without representation of 'particular characters'. 31 december 1796 31 december 1796. Hand-coloured etching. Date: 1796.
