Henry alexander ogden, washington at the george emlen house, whitemarsh, pennsylvania from the collection of the new-york historical society the emlen house was built by george emlen iii (1718–1776), part of a prominent quaker family in philadelphia. [1] it was owned by his son george emlen (circa 1741–1812) when it served as washington's headquarters in november and december 1777. [2].
