"victory of legitimacy" (by maurício josé do carmo sendim, 1833). Allegory of the entry of the liberal forces in lisbon on 24 july 1833, after the retreat of the miguelists, during the portuguese civil war. In the center, victory crushes under her feet the head of despotism (who was usurping and oppressing all portugal), and lifts on one of her hands the name of queen maria ii, and on the other, the constitutional charter. To the left, the love of the fatherland steps on the weapons of the tyrants and crowns innocence, who is now free, with the crowns given to him by the love of virtue. On the other side, freedom guides science and fine-arts to portugal, from which they had been banished. Date: 26 July 1833.
