Lc-dig-pga-03087: england and america. The visit of her majesty queen victoria to the arctic ship resolute - december 16th, 1856, to whom this engraving is by special permission respectfully dedicated by her obedient servants, p. & d. Colnaghi & co. / painted by w. Simpson; engraved by g. Zobel, 1859. Resolute became trapped in the arctic, and an american whaler helped to remove the ship. As a gesture, queen victoria made a desk from the wood and presented it to the president of the united states. (2015/10/16).
