This small codex consists only 14 leaves and contains short texts to be used in the education of massimiliano sforza (1493-1530), the son of ludovico il moro, duke of milan and beatrice d'este. It is decorated with numerous initials, three historiated initials, and four full-page miniatures. Most of the scenes in the manuscript are by giovanni pietro birago, a lombard artist whose work is of somewhat mediocre quality. However, the miniature on folio 6 is of much higher quality. It represents the meeting between massimiliano sforza and the emperor maximilian, which took place at bormio on 25 july 1496. This fine miniature is attributed to boccaccio boccaccino, one of the finest milanese artists of the late fifteenth century. He was an illuminator, but worked mainly as a painter in cremona and ferrara. Date: 16th century.
